Our history
The Purbeck Marathon started back in 2012, the idea of a man named Richard Cook. He taked to the local running club and a member of the local hospitality association. The hospitality association agreed to underwrite the event and so a team could be built to manage the event.
The race was planned and a time limit set of 7 hours. However, in the first race there was a runner from the Army running in full kit and with a 40lb pack. He was running for charity. The race sweepers followed him around the course and realised that he would not make the time limit. But the race organisers kept the race and finish line open for him and he completed the race in 7hrs and 17 mins. This is an example of what the Purbeck Marathon is about, effort, endurance, and community spirit all set in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.
